Creating Hotel Inspired Bedrooms at Home

We all love staying in hotels right? Especially after the year we have all had, it's probably a while since we have had a night away somewhere new and stayed in a nice place for the night.

A few years back, my husband and I decided that we didn't NEED anything more for Christmas. If we were really honest with ourselves we knew we didn't need any more STUFF. SO we decided that instead of buying more stuff we would go away for a night, eat somewhere nice and stay somewhere lovely. We have done it 4 years running now and have loved it each time we have. It means planning a mini break, just us two, somewhere new, without the kids (sorry kids) to rest, recharge, have a full conversation, not have to share food and just generally look after ourselves for 48 hours instead of everybody else. Sounds like heaven right? So I think it's only natural we would want to recreate that feeling at home in our own bedrooms.

So i'm channelling that inner hotel look for you to recreate at home. I'm sharing one of my favourite hotel looks and i've done one inspiration board as to how you might replicate it at home.

First up is one of my favourite hotel images from @cult_hotels who are based in Cheltenham. I'm yet to stay there but it's on my wish list. I love everything about this room and how luxurious it looks and comfy that bed looks. It's all about creating a bit of luxury in your home that's a space to sleep soundly and recharge and relax after a long day. Think about those feelings you take home after a night away and how you want to continue feeling when you get home. Maybe you need a declutter, move a laptop out so you aren't looking at and therefore thinking about work when you are trying to wind down for bed. Leave your phone downstairs, pick a good book and rest.

I'll share my inspiration board here as to how I would recreate that look at home if a client wanted that sort of look and feel. Remember everything about this is luxurious, so don't scrimp on the finishings and fabrics, particularly the bed linen and the carpets. You want that cosy soft feeling underfoot as you make your way to the bathroom, maybe with heating flooring in there. Bliss.

My favourite feeling in a hotel is the crisp, soft bedlinen and a huge comfy bed to fall asleep in, and tied with that, big black out blinds and curtains to shut out the light and make sure I get a great night sleep. Scent is also really important to me. In the same way visiting a spa and smelling all those amazing oils and essences, those relaxing smells help me feel pampered and I drift off to sleep really easily. Investing in a sleep spray with hints of relaxing lavender onto your pillow and an eye mask, comfy pj's having had a long bath or shower with wonderfully smelling toiletries is my idea of heaven. What's your idea of heaven in this situation. Send me a message, i'd love to know.

Here's my inspiration board for the above hotel room.

On a side note how clever is the paneling effect wallpaper? Get the same look and effect without paying to have the paneling done by a carpenter! Genius.

I'm going to be sharing more hotel bedroom inspired looks on my regular Sunday styling feature on both instagram and facebook on Sunday so watch out for that this week.
