Are you watching Sophie Robinson's new TV show on Channel 5 on Wednesday's at 7pm? As soon as I heard about Sophie doing her own show, I put it in to series record knowing that I was going to love it. Sophie is a bit of an interiors idol of mine. I can't quite remember how I first came across her and her interiors work, it was probably guest appearing on a show like DIY SOS as a designer for the homes on the show. When I first saw her work I knew her love of colour and pattern was completely infectious and inspiring, I've followed her work ever since then.

So, have you watched the show? There have been a few episodes so far so still plenty of time to catch up, with all of the shows on My5 too, there's no reason to miss out. It's top of my watch list currently as my interiors inspiration.

Nottinghamshire Schoolhouse

The first episode saw a couple with a converted school as a home which was every bit beautiful and a slightly overwhelming prospect as you might expect. After catching a glimpse of Sophie on BBC breakfast a few weeks ago as she promoted her new show, she hinted that she too had initially found it daunting at the prospect of such a big room to transform. I loved Sophie's approach to this room to completely change the colour scheme from light to dark because the space could handle dark colours due to its high ceilings and vast windows that let so much light in. Sophie went 360 with the design by painting the whole room black... even the ceiling and played into the gothic style that was represented in the windows of the room. The end result was a complete transformation which to me resembled a boutique hotel games room and lounge area. The rather large feature of the snooker table took centre stage here, but the room was also needed for entertaining and relaxing too.

Sophie softened the room with patterned curtains and lots of soft house plants to add texture and interest as well as balancing up the dark colours with some fresh natural green. I found it a really inspiring and interesting project to watch and see it through to the end.

Colour Blocking

The second episode of the series saw some more couples wanting to change their homes, with this challenge having a budget of £500 and needing to be done in a weekend. Rising to the challenge, Sophie pulled this off by colour blocking the room which gave a great modern twist on the room, and also illustrated a great way to use lilac in a room which is possibly a very underused colour. I loved the new approach on this room that there was a budget and a time constraint too. Needless to say that Sophie pulled it off, and the owners loved their new room.

I won't give too much away, especially if you haven't watched any of the episodes yet. There is so much to see and inspire and something for every taste and style. Or perhaps your home is completely finished and renovated and you just want to see lots of beautifully decorated homes!

Can I help?

If you haven't watched already then do take a look, and hopefully it will inspire you. If you are still confused and don't know where to start, then maybe I can help? It doesn't matter where you are in your interior design journey at all. One of my client's I started working with just after Christmas was 80% there with their interiors in all the rooms in their house, they just all needed tying together and finishing off with some key details. So we have been working together to complete all of the rooms which are coming together nicely. I can't wait to see them all finished and know that my client feels at home with their house and proud to entertain and have people round.

If that sounds like you then why not get in touch. Just because what you need isn't on my Services Page www.laurenmayinteriors.com/services that doesn't mean I can't help. You can email me at hello@laurenmayinteriors.com or call me 07712185467. I'd love to hear from you and learn more about your project.

Have a great weekend.
